I’ve seen way too many people in internet comment sections yapping about how “Linux is the future!” written as an essay. But I don’t think these people themselves have much of a future, but I’m getting ahead of myself.
Hey guys, Sarmad here, have you ever gone to the hospital because of a significant loss in braincells after watching these videos about “Switching to Linux,” or seeing these comments saying "Just switch to Linux!”
1. Linux is for Geeks (no offence)
Linux isn’t for most people, alright? Most people don’t want to use a fancy terminal or use “Wine” or uhh… other apps. A lot of apps that most people use are NOT available on Linux distros, and people don’t want to use the inconvenient alternatives like LibreOffice and stuff, because it doesn’t have “the Google.”
Linux is for people who enthusiastic about this stuff. Not for so-called “normies.”
2. Linux is (Not) the Future
And God, when I hear someone say “Linux is the future.”
I literally don’t know what to say.
Because the small amount of people using Windows 10 have already upgraded, or just have new computers from Officeworks. No normal person will suddenly get a pop-up to “Upgrade to Linux in one click” on their computer in 2025.
3. "You Already Use Linux"
I’ve seen too many comments saying “You already use Linux! It’s in your Android phone, in your Chromebook, it’s in your router, it’s in online services’ servers, it’s in your microwave, and it’s in your toaster!” OK then, who’s using the terminal? Not me. So yeah, Linux isn’t just for everyone, it's for people who are actually enthusiastic about this stuff.
